tom mangan is the guy behind the 4th release on the lorna label. his name has been around since 2002 with eps on labels such as bedrock or tiefschwarzs souvenir. together with cass cutbusch he has been responsible for a variety of club hits as cass & mangan and deadset on wall of sound, fine and sabotage systems. >good words< gets you with its deepness and musicality - tight house music right for the floor. >bit lip< on side b spreads over twelve minutes - closely selected harmonies and sounds conjure up a hypnotic house track that serves as deadly secret weapon in early morning hours, special rerelease

sometimes, its still worth not to waste your youth with nonsense but to learn to play an instrument. like in the case of sebastian mullaert, who has learned to play violin, organ and piano, while his partner marcus henriksson rather came from kraftwerk and human league to electronic music. as son kite, the two swedes have already a well-known name in the psy-trance scene, and as minilogue, they now start to conquer the minimal and house world. with their rather unique sound, they manage the tightrope walk between minimal and trance and never allow us to put them into a drawer. especially with their debut on cocoon rec, minilogue present themselves in a different way, compared to their releases on traum or wagon repair. >jamaica< is a calm track at the first hearing and is perfect for building up a set. beginning with bird-like sounds, the track builds up slowly and quickly becomes very interesting and tricky, ramifies as organic as a climbing plant, and when the tribal sound emerges from the underground, this track has exactly what makes minilogue so special: organic matter and groovy sounds, worked into a minimal labyrinth with very much love for the details. all of that can also be found on the b side which seems to be more adequate for the morning hours, with its somehow spacey sound. with >jamaica<, mullaert and henriksson prove that they are floating on the very surface of the endless minimal ocean. and with their album >animals< being already in sight on cocoon recordings, one can be highly anxious of what is coming ahead, by minilogue and techno made in sweden

merry, amusing nonsense - some of the attributes used to describe the last kritik records. these terms are unlikely to be appropriate here: the young sebastian simmert from the outskirts of berlin has submitted his first own production. noticable are the influences of techno producers from recent years and the work of this 22 year old demonstrates he knows the whos who. is this an up and comer? the first track is in the tradition of pumping bodzin/romboy works, the second references 2step, including the bad little ravemonster. finally, a hymne for the early morning hours, for the more contemplative dancefloor - enjoy while sipping bionade. beyond minimalism

with >manipulation< johnny d creates an atmosphere of a special kind. a slowly growing track that grooves endlessly from beginning to end. >gualia< is much straighter, a pushing tune with marching percussion und a rocking bassline. >since the last time< remixed by nekes follows the path of those morning hours filled with happiness, which completes the second olso release. deep, jazzy house tasting like summer.

keith worthy returns with the second release on the detroit based aesthetic audio label. she loves me not is a deeper than deep, with sweet percussion accompanying the smooth beats while the spaced out keys create a laidbadk vibe perfect for afterhours/early morning play. the alternate mental deepstrumental adds a slight techy edge to the track. beat the beat up is a typical detroit ish tech house track with moody keys over a techified beat

l delay is all about the drama—but at the same time, its skipping hi-hats and ringing bells suggest a carefree spirit and a supreme lightness of touch. talk about a duality: a cloak of reverb sucks the track perennially towards the dark side, but from the gleeful syncopations to the cheekily sampled live instruments, everything else opens up to the light like a morning yoga position. there s no funny business here, just tight rhythms and emphatic phrases that command bodies to move. its a monster of a track, but it must be of the loch ness variety, because youll never see it coming. on the flip, >frost< —haunted by the same high, lonesome string note as >l delay<— might be even more energetic, if that s possible. the high end has been smoothed down, and some of the roughhewn chicago edge of its companion tune sanded smooth, but its crazily syncopated standup bass line and distant, answering keyboards is all muscle, tensed and ready to explode. spacious drum tracks clear the floor for flashes of tambourine and handclaps so dry you can taste the salt on em. again, no nonsense is the name of the game: just raw, unadulterated funk with an ear for playful rhythms and limber moves
